May is originally from central Iowa (Adel). After spending her last year of high school in France, she came to Iowa City to earn her undergraduate degree in Asian Languages and Literature, and, after six more years in Japan, returned for an MA in Linguistics. Eventually, she decided that if Iowa City had a force magnetic enough to call her back from two different continents, she might as well settle down there.

May was only recently adopted by the theatre community, but she has found that her passion for understanding and troubleshooting various forms of human communication has served her well in the space. She finds that the challenges posed when trying to bring an artistic vision to life often present themselves as a sort of lateral thinking puzzle, and May is profoundly, incurably unable to resist any type of lateral thinking puzzle.

May hopes to bring infinite good cheer to the productions in which she is involved, but in the event that this is not quite possible, she can at least promise a kind spirit, a reasonable supply of patience, and a sharp pair of scissors. She especially enjoys the collaborative, open ethos of the RoM team, and she is excited to share ideas, learn from others, and build art together with both the core RoM team and all of the other talented members of the Iowa City creative community.

When not working on projects, May enjoys gardening and relaxing at home with her cat.
