Waves Crashing Announcement

Auditions for:
The Sound of Waves CRashing on An Island of Broken Glass

In a remote cabin detached from civilization, a young girl must reconcile with her family’s criminal past. Will she break the chain of violence and misery, or be molded into the personality her parents have delicately crafted for her? Observe Malibu, 13, as she wrestles with death, pieces through memories, severs familial connections, learns drug classifications, and cooks up some pancakes in this thrilling original play by Shawn Overton.

Malibu – Pre-cast with the talented Viola McConville.
Miss (Age Flexible) – A dance teacher from a lifetime ago. Ethereal & misremembered. Dry sense of humor. In control, the mother swan. Russian accent.
Trey (60s-70s) – Malibu’s grandfather. Gruff. Speaks frankly. Exasperated and tired, with a short temper. Incredulous. Desperate to save Malibu from the life she’s been thrust into.
Sophie (30s-40s) – Malibu’s mother. Emotionally distant but trying. Didactic and stern. High expectations. Calculating. Careful with her words. Beneath it all, a killer.
Connor (30s-40s) – Malibu’s father. Completely emotionally detached. Frank. Ambivalent to his own life. Puppeteered by Sophie. Living as if by muscle memory.
Aston (10-13) – A boy, kidnapped. Naïve to the gravity of the situation. Chummy. An oddly resilient sense of humor.
Terrence (Age Flexible) – A friend of the family. A fixer. Menacing, though convincingly masked with disarming humor. Manipulative and ruthless man. A finely tuned sensor for the killer instinct.
